Into The Great Wide Blackness Beyond

jaimepageguitars | October 11, 2016

Well, the last six months has been quite an eventful ride. From February 2016 I have seen my Facebook, work and public unveiling, an unforgettable Dark Universe CD launch, and the trip of destiny to be re-birthed with Dr. Saran.

It’s Whatever You Want It To Be

The last few months have been all about recovery, finding myself and learning to become the woman I always wanted to be.

There have been some casualties along the way, some I can work on and some that are not redeemable. There are also many new friends that I hold very dear. You know who you are and I love you darlings.

Getting back into rewarding employment has been the most difficult. I find myself relying more on my music to get me through, which may be a godsend but I will come up with something and overcome. I was naive to expect anything else I do concede.

I am very content in most respects, and will always remember my experience in Bangkok as one of the times of my life. It was the most poignant, beautiful moment when Dr. S released me from my drainage lines and plaster.

I walked over to the hospital room window, opened it to feel a gust of lovely warm air, a golden sunset and the sound of monks chanting from the Golden Temple outside. It was a magical moment forever etched in my heart.

Returning home to Australia as moi was a glorious feeling. Pure elation. I have been very fortunate indeed.

Musically I have made some great strides forward. It was interesting to see how things would go there.

Into The Black (AKA Something Something Something)

As fate would have it, I wrote the new opening song of the new album ‘7th Heaven’ just before leaving for Dr. Saran, and then followed up with the third song, which is called ‘Shatter.’

7th Heaven is an ode to reaching for your dream. Bright and powerful but with my traditional subtext of anger here and there. A curse with a smile!

Shatter came from a gentle chord pattern that just came out when I returned from Dr. S. It was the only thing I played for weeks and would not go away. I paired it up with a random chord thing I had in another ballad, sped it up a tad, and thus it was born.

Shatter is bittersweet. It is about the feelings of loss we encounter on our journeys. One of the favorite songs I have written. Drenched in real, deep emotion.

Whatever is a leftover from the original Dark Universe pool of songs. It is rather stark. The theme being physical and mental abuse and family breakdown. Stuart James convinced me to add it to the album. I was a bit worried about so much darkness on the record, but why not go mad.

The last song to come for the new album is Into The Black. Another song featuring my second favorite color, Black. For this one I wanted it to be utterly bombastic and heavy. I think I managed that. I love watching Stuart James turn into a rabid wild man when we listen to playbacks! It still has an element of niceness in it somewhere, but that is also bittersweet, as ever. Another new favorite for me.
